Making Joy My Constant Companion

Nov 4th, 2008 | By Dene Brock | Category: Dene's Blogs

One of the things that I have noted in my new goals and aspirations is my desire to re-connect with spirit. I feel that in my desire to move my business forward, I kind of lost track of my spiritual path, which was why I wanted to have this website in the first place. So I’ve been making more of a conscious effort to get re-aligned with spirit, and I’m feeling the effects of it. Joy has become my constant companion.

I’ll share a quote with you that I find uplifting:

“Regardless of your current situation in life, you have a spiritual contract to make joy your constant companion. If you know that you don’t have to live a life filled with less than joyful activities, then you can choose the way of inspiration.” - Dr. Wayne Dyer

We have a spiritual contract - whether we realize or acknowledge it or not - to live in a state of pure love and joy. It has to be that way, because of our source, which is God. If we are a piece of God, then we can be nothing else. What an inspiring revelation to know that not only are we allowed to live a joyous life, it is EXPECTED and REQUIRED, removing all of those false needs we’ve placed upon ourselves to feel guilty or undeserving.

So today, I made sure to recognize all of the blessings in my life, even when they might have been cleverly disguised as something less- I know better now.

I was able to deliver both of my children to their schools safely and with joy and expectation of a great day of learning and playing and spending time with friends.

I was thankful that I could simply cross the street after dropping Rachel off at class and do some grocery shopping - knowing that I have enough money in my account to cover all our bills and buy food for my family. I made sure to thank our creator for the abundance that has been provided to my family, my friends and my entire country.

I took time today to talk (email) with a friend to make sure she knew that her calling in life is valid and celebrated by the ones around her. I also acknowledged a very important person in my life who is having a birthday today - letting him know that he is loved and thought of every day, but especially today.

My husband had a Dr’s appointment today for a wound on his ear that just wouldn’t properly heal. It turned out to be a squamous cell carcinoma, a very common type of skin cancer occurring in people who have spent a lot of time in the sun. Although I am concerned for my husband’s physical health and safety, I was thankful that we have outstanding physicians in our area who know how to quickly take care of these things - and that with a simple in-office procedure, my husband was treated with ease and minimal pain. He will need to have some follow-up appointments, but will be fine. This was the biggest blessing of all.

This evening, I cooked dinner for my family, enjoyed their company, helped my son with his homework, got everyone ready for bed, then sat down to share my awesome day with my awesome friends.
