Sacredness in the Ordinary
By Christine Metawati
Recently, I woke up one morning, aware of a conscious thought “There’s beauty, truth, grace, love, support and gentleness everywhere.”
I lay there in stillness as another thought in me say “How do you see that?”
Then, a quiet knowing crept in, like a smile. A gentle and wise knowing. I woke up with this understanding of looking, really looking around me, with a different eye. There was something that awakened in me, something softer and yet much more powerful. And since that morning, I have been looking at the world through her eyes, and I tell you, it feels different to be me. No, the world doesn’t look different, it just feels different. It feels like it is singing all the time, and that the colors are magnificent, and that there is a gentle loving support everywhere. What a splendid way to experience life! It feels so positively marvelous and joyous!
I am still integrating this experience within me, and I am very grateful for it. What a energizing way to be in the world, a brand new way of seeing and being for me, and I am very excited about it. Like all things that just plop into my lap, I am still at the observation stage: “What is this?” I really like the sudden change and a part of me is a little afraid of it as well. Hopefully, I have enough faith in me to allow the unfolding of magic to happen.
I have done this “looking with a different eye” before, when I first had my daughter. Looking at the world through the eye of a child is quite a refreshing and invigorating experience. It’s like eating ice cream for the first time, or seeing a slug and be in wonderment. It is quite a wonderful and awesome state of being. Those of you who have children or have played with them probably know what I mean.
From my new ways of seeing the world, I have learned that when we are willing to take the risks to allow our heart to soften and sense the world through it, we will not only look at, but will also tune into, the spirit of magic, sacredness and grace in the ordinary around us.
May you find magnificence in the ordinary.
